RAP CITY APPEARANCE JUNE 9, 2011

June 9, 2011 I was invited by my boy T-Rexxx to guest DJ on MuchMusic Rap City ; showcasing one of my other talents. As I’m known as “The Voice of the Vibe”, I’m sure a lot of  people were surprised and thought to themselves “Man…he DJ’s too?!” Admittedly,  it was a great feeling to be back on the one’s and two’s; revisiting my foundation.
The appearance was also a perfect opportunity to tell the world about another venture I am pursuing.  A KidKut signature microphone line called Voice, is currently in the works.  It is a collaboration between myself, Dextrous and DJ Depot and is set to release in 2012!  Thanks to my Fam that came out to support and those of you that watched from home. If you missed the appearance, check out the clip and stay tuned for launch of the Voice.

Sustainable Earphone Collection

When it starts to look like we moving in the direction of becoming overly consuming, destructive earth dwellers, someone in our realm does something positive that gives us a gleam of hope for generations to come.  The House of Marley (Legacy of Bob Marley) has launched a brand of headphones that are made from recycled and environmentally friendly materials. Such materials as bamboo, recycled aluminum, leather, FSC certified wood and HEMP have been used in the making of this line of headphones and earbuds. Everything down to the packaging is made with recycled material and also includes advice on how to dispose of the packaging in such a way to reduce the lasting effects on the environment.  Pieces range from $30 – $300, and part proceeds go towards the 1Love Foundation.  There is hope for us yet.

NGP – New Generation Portable PSP

Sony’s new PSP code name NGP – New Generation Portable – is positioning to change the handheld gaming world. Set to be released later this year (no set date has been determined) the system is said to have “visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system”. Additionally Sony promises such features as two thumsticks, rear touch controls, a touch-sensitive OLED screen, front and rear-facing cameras and a built in electronic compass. The device will also be equipped with WiFi and 3G capabilities, and will be compatible with smart phones and android based portable devices.

Air Jordan Digital Camera?

I came across the Olympus Pen E-PL2 while surfing the net. It is pretty dope because it has implemented the Air Jordan black and white cement pattern in the design. Apparently the esthetics is where the coolness ends because although it is an upgrade from the Olympus E-PL1, released last year, the reviews that I have read do not favour the camera’s performance. Reviews reveal that it has a wider ISO range and improved video shooting. Additionally,  it is compact and easy to use; however, it does not have a viewfinder and noisy images. All in all, it seems to have not changed much since last year’s model.

Zoom Q3HD Handy Video Recorder

The new Zoom Q3HD Handy Video Recorder is a great buy for those looking for a pocket size video recorder. The Q3HD not only offers Zoom’s X-Y stereo audio recording capabilities (at up to 24 bits/96KHz) but can capture 1080p high-definition video at 30 frames per second—and 720p video at either 30 or 60 frames per second. Three different lighting settings (concert, night, and automatic) allows’ you to capture footage with stunning clarity and resolution. Additionally you have the choice of manually adjusting your audio settings to accommodate various environments or set it automatically to adjust. Great for shooting concerts, interviews, weddings or anything else you would use your handy cam for. I wonder if it’s too late to add to the Christmas Wish list?

Nikon 3100

Attention all aspiring photogs, Nikon has released an upgrade to the entry level DSLR. Retailing for under $1000, the Nikon 3100 has many of the same (as well as some upgraded) features of its more expensive bigger brother D5000. Some notable features include higher resolution at 14.2 MP, live view and the ability to shoot 1080 HD movies. A great investment for all the wanna be Tarantino’s and Leibovitz’s out there!

iPad DJ Station

Isn’t technology GRAND!! We’ve evolved from toting crates of records to books of cds, and then to simply rolling with you’re Mac and a portable hard drive. As your need for an entourage begins to diminish, and you begin to think things just can’t get any better, a concept created by Psychic Factory aims to further enhance the the dj-ing inexperience.  The concept dj station uses a standard setup for a single unit with a large dock in the center for the flat-screened ipad. The unit will come with scratchpads, cross fader and all the regular buttons and knobs; however, the ipad adds a whole new dimension of interactivity. Songs can be fiddled with to an even greater degree or the dj can add their own music on top using a keyboard or instrument setup. Although it is just a concept, this kind of device will no doubt soon be a reality….Stay tuned!
