NGP – New Generation Portable PSP

Sony’s new PSP code name NGP – New Generation Portable – is positioning to change the handheld gaming world. Set to be released later this year (no set date has been determined) the system is said to have “visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system”. Additionally Sony promises such features as two thumsticks, rear touch controls, a touch-sensitive OLED screen, front and rear-facing cameras and a built in electronic compass. The device will also be equipped with WiFi and 3G capabilities, and will be compatible with smart phones and android based portable devices.

VW XL1 Concept Car

The on-going challenge put forth to Volkswagen engineers is to come up with the most fuel efficient car; essentially answering the question “Just how much could the energy consumption of cars be reduced if all the stops were pulled out for efficiency?” After several unsuccessful attempts of comparable fuel efficiency and practicality, they finally developed a bullet shaped diesel-electric plug in hybrid, the XL1 Concept Car. This concept car is a result of “what’s possible when you let your engineers run wild”. If you would like to get a glimpse of this car and just so happened to be in the Middle East, it will be reveled this week at the Qatar Motor Show. For all you car enthusiasts out there, here are some of the impressive features:

  • The diesel-electric combo features a 2-cylinder TDI engine with a displacement of just 0.8 liters.
  • The engine is good for 48 horsepower and 88 pound-feet of torque.
  • Can go 35 kilometers (21 miles) in electricity alone.
  • Will do zero to 60 in 11.9 seconds.
  • Fuel economy is pegged at 0.9 liters per 100 kilometers
  • Carbon-fiber anti-roll bars, ceramic brake rotors and magnesium wheels.

If those features have you salivating and gave you a warm fussy feeling in unmentionable areas, I’m sorry to report that it seems unlikely we’ll see anything resembling this car anytime soon given the exotic (and expensive) materials and outlandish styling. But you can always dream.

Air Jordan Digital Camera?

I came across the Olympus Pen E-PL2 while surfing the net. It is pretty dope because it has implemented the Air Jordan black and white cement pattern in the design. Apparently the esthetics is where the coolness ends because although it is an upgrade from the Olympus E-PL1, released last year, the reviews that I have read do not favour the camera’s performance. Reviews reveal that it has a wider ISO range and improved video shooting. Additionally,  it is compact and easy to use; however, it does not have a viewfinder and noisy images. All in all, it seems to have not changed much since last year’s model.

Sony outs CLM-V55 video monitor for interchangeable lens cameras

To take John McEnroe’s famous quote badly out of context, you cannot be serious about video recording without giving your devices a nice big display for videographers to monitor their recordings through. Sony’s clearly in agreement and has today revealed the CLM-V55, a 5-inch clip-on unit for its interchangeable lens cameras, that provides WVGA resolution, tilt / swivel adjustments, and color peaking plus pixel magnification to make sure focus is just how you like it. The primary beneficiaries of this would be those delightful A33 and A55 siblings, which strive to combine the fast autofocus of a camcorder with the image quality of a DSLR, along with the NEX-VG10, an all-out camcorder that can nonetheless exchange its lenses and even exploit Alpha-mount glass via an adapter. You can see it outfitted with the V55 after the break, right next to the full press release. Launch is expected in March at an as yet unannounced price.
